Art Nouveau was a style in art and architecture that was dominant in many European countries at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. These days, Aina Gasse, one of the best known fashion designers of Ukraine, turns to it for inspiration.
Aina Gasse showed her new collection Spring-Summer 2010 at the luxurious Hotel Intercontinental in Kyiv.
As always, Aina Gasse made the fascinated audience review their ideas of what fashionable dress should be. She charmed the receptive spectators with the images she had created.
The collection can be described as being “supremely feminine.” The designer has transformed certain Art Nouveau features into the high fashion of today. Women wearing dresses designed by Aina Gasse can’t help being admired. Beauty and slight coquetry, combined with the I-know-I’m-attractive look on the catwalk, were irresistible.
Aina Gasse has created a style, in which the Art Nouveau echoes of “female beauty and flowers” reign supreme.
The sensuous silhouettes and fanciful lines, bold juxtapositions of colors are the hallmark of the images created by the designer. Leaves, flowers, fable creatures are transformed by Aina Gasse into enchanting features of the decorative design. The designer uses light, “flowing” fabrics — satin, crepe-chiffon, jersey and organza; the colors — bottle green, grayish, chocolate, beige, black — come mostly in complex combinations; shiny, semi-transparent and many-layered textures dominated. The fabrics were made especially for this collection with the use of ancient Italian technologies and methods. Aina Gasse also provided, as she always does, bags, purses, shoes and other accessories of her design to enhance the collection. Silver and gold thread, wood carving and other impressive decorative elements enriched the general impression.
Vlada Prokayeva (Lytovchenko), the well-known business lady and president of the charity fund Obdarovani dity — maybutnye Ukrayiny (Gifted Children Are the Future of Ukraine) was “the face” of the collection. Karin Model Management Group was the model partner of the show; the jewelry partner of the show — Boucheron, the French jewelry house.
Among the models, who appeared at the catwalk, was Antonina Paperna, the daughter of the much admired beautiful actress Olga Sumska. Among the guests were many of those who make up the Kyiv beau monde..
